Karachi airport, areas plunge into dark after technical fault

Multiple areas of Karachi and the international airport were plunged into darkness following a dust storm and rain that hit the megacity around midnight.

Karachi witnessed a dust storm followed by light rain which resulted in power breakdown in multiple areas.

The power breakdown also affected Karachi Airport where scanning machines at international arrivals also stopped working.

The airport’s standby generator also malfunctioned owing to which the passengers faced difficulties.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson said that technical teams were working on restoration of power at the airport and the fault will be resolved soon.

Further, the spokesperson of Karachi Electric (K-Electric) said that power outages in different areas of the city.

He said that the power outage in Karachi was caused by a tripping in the national grid, but the system is now stable and the outage will be restored immediately.

The official said that they have started restoration work on all grid stations, and the outage is expected to be resolved shortly.
