Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Iran arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to commence his official duties, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, hours after the Islamic Republic’s envoy arrived in Riyadh.

The exchange of ambassadors comes after the two countries reached an agreement in March, brokered by China, to reestablish diplomatic relations after seven years of no formal ties.

The Saudi “leadership’s directives emphasize the importance of strengthening relations and intensifying communication and meetings between the Kingdom and Iran,” the Saudi envoy, Abdullah bin Saud Alanazi, said after arriving in Tehran, according to SPA.

Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 program “represents a road map that reflects all aspects of cooperation that can be built upon to enhance cooperation between the two countries,” Alanazi, who previously served as the Kingdom’s ambassador to Oman, added.
