In a bid to attract remote workers and entrepreneurs from around the world, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) introduced a groundbreaking initiative a couple of years ago – the Remote Work Visa and Dubai’s Virtual Working Programme.

These schemes have opened the doors for international professionals to experience the charm and opportunities of the Gulf state while continuing their work remotely.

Requirements for UAE remote work visa

To qualify for the UAE Remote Work Visa, applicants must meet specific criteria:

Remote Work Status: You must provide evidence of remote employment with an organization located outside the UAE.

Minimum Income: A monthly income of at least USD 3,500 (or equivalent in another currency) is required.

Dubai’s virtual working programme

Dubai offers a similar opportunity known as the Virtual Working Programme. This option is available to:

International Professionals: Those living and working outside the UAE.
Entrepreneurs: Individuals with eligible startups and companies who meet the program’s criteria.
If approved for the Virtual Working Programme, you have the option to bring your family along for the journey. The program initially grants a one-year visa, which can be renewed upon re-application.

Application process

To apply for the Virtual Working Programme, applicants must possess a passport with a minimum of six months’ validity and valid health insurance covering their UAE residency.

For employees:

Proof of employment with a one-year contract.
A minimum monthly salary of USD 5,000.
Submission of the last month’s salary slip and bank statements for the preceding three months.

For company owners:

Proof of company ownership for one year or more.
An average monthly income of USD 5,000.
Submission of the company’s bank statements for the preceding three months.

Dubai remote work visa fees

Applicants will be required to pay a fee of $287 per person for the Virtual Working Programme.

Additionally, they must cover the cost of medical insurance valid within the UAE and processing fees.

These initiatives reflect the UAE’s commitment to innovation and its open-armed approach to welcoming international talent and entrepreneurs.

With its stunning landscapes, dynamic business environment, and world-class amenities, the UAE has become an attractive destination for remote workers and startup enthusiasts seeking a change of scenery while advancing their careers.

Whether it’s the bustling metropolis of Dubai or the serene landscapes of the UAE, these programs offer a golden opportunity to work, live, and thrive in one of the world’s most dynamic regions.
